ELC Leaders jumped into action for Easterseal’s Rocky Mountain Village.
Earlier this year, the CCA’s Emerging Leaders Council (ELC) discovered a critical challenge at Easterseals’ Rocky Mountain Village — a beloved summer camp dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities through outdoor adventure.
The camp’s zip-line course, a highlight for many, was difficult to reach due to a deteriorating access road. For campers with mobility challenges, this roadblock stood in the way of an experience that represents inclusion, confidence, and independence.
When ELC steering committee members visited the camp, they saw a chance to step in and make a real impact. With the summer season fast approaching, the team sprang into action. Their plan was straightforward but powerful: lay down a crushed concrete surface to create a safer, more accessible path for wheelchairs and move the route off the main road for added safety.
On May 17th, the ELC brought together a dedicated group of volunteers and industry partners—including Performance Equipment Rentals—to build a brand-new, 6-foot-wide, 800-foot-long compacted road base path. Thanks to this collaborative effort, every camper now has improved access to the zip-line and the unforgettable sense of freedom it brings.
Looking ahead, the ELC’s goal is to pave this path for even greater durability against Colorado’s tough weather.
